The Florence coffee table from the exclusive The Met x Eichholtz collection is a sophisticated composition of stone, symmetry, and timeless design. Crafted from exquisite Silver Travertine, this sculptural piece of furniture embodies the serene power of Romanesque architecture and becomes a striking centerpiece for modern living spaces.
With its low profile and robust base, the Florence coffee table exudes an understated elegance. The natural grain of the travertine makes each piece unique and lends the design a calm, authentic depth – timeless, minimalist, and full of character.
Historical inspiration
The Florence coffee table is inspired by a Catalan column shaft from the early 12th century (c. 1130–1140), which is located in Cuxa Cloister from The Cloisters is located – in the medieval section of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The original column shaft, made of marble and stone, comes from the Benedictine monastery of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa in present-day France. Eichholtz takes this simple, powerful form and reinterprets it as an elegant travertine coffee table with a sculptural presence.
